On top of the masts we find so-called &#8220;all-in-one&#8221; MetSens600 compact weather stations that measure measure wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure and rainfall. Further down on the the mast is an infrared radiometer that measures the surface temperature.<br><br>All three of these small-scale weather stations are installed near permafrost boreholes. Their purpose is to directly link weather conditions to the ground conditions. Data from the weather stations are available through MET Norway&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/seklima.met.no\">Seklima<\/a> service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-5 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-5 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background\"><strong>Private Weather Stations<\/strong><br>To increase the amount of weather observations in Longyearbyen, small private weather stations from local residents are included in the meteorological monitoring system of LongyearObs. They are mounted on lamp posts around the city and use the WiFi of private homes for distributing the data.
